I got this idea from a thread that was already started...

Since I'm a single female my ideal travel companion would be a good looking male (sorry girls but I think guys are generally more easy going than girls, and they don't need to carry as much stuff as girls do so he could carry some of mine ;) but actually I would never do that because I'm not the dependent type...

Okay so single, attractive male, 21 to 25 yrs old. He would have a lot of money if it was necessary not even so much to use it but so that worrying about money wouldn't ruin any of the fun, but we would mainly travel on a tight budget (more fun that way) . He would be a history buff so whenever I had a question about something he would know the answer. He wouldn't smell bad if he didn't shower in a while... Because if it was cold we would HAVE to snuggle...(platonically) (we wouldn't be dating)...
He would speak English and French, Italian, or German (I have Spanish covered and those are the other big languages...)

Okay I left some holes you guys fill them in...

Great news Leah, I'm your dream travel companion

My ideal companion would be someone... male or female (female of course would be nice.) who was as open to new experiences and other cultures as I am, Someone who loves to drive and is as laid back as I am and enjoys budget travelling as well. I say this because I think spending all that money buys you a "shield" against the locals.

Would have to be someone who was decidedly non judgemental about new things and other ways of thinking and in general enjoy all things related to travelling. New people/religions/cultures.. New environments, architecture and the history of places.

Someone who is comfortable in a tent one night and a five star hotel another, who doesn't shy away from the homeless, but could also be comfortable in a chance encounter with High Society types at times. I am very lucky when I travel and odd and exciting things tend to happen when I am on a trip which can make it sort of like a roller coster ride of sorts, so the kind of person who can take all that in and have a good time with it.

Lastly, someone who enjoys long trips. I rarely take a trip that lasts less than a month, and don't think I've really considered a place to be "explored" if I've been there for less than 3 months, so someone who likes extended trips would be a must.

I think if you take all of these things and add them together you get....
The reason why I always travel alone.

Well, i qualify by age and am a single male, but as i'm pig ugly, impressively smelly (with or without showering), have no money, am thick as two short planks (so no history at all except i know that there have been 3 world wars) and don't speak a word of any of English, French, Italian or German, i guess you have to count me out!

Having said that, i'm very good at falling into things, so guess i also count as filling in holes...

Good luck on your search

Oh I'm not searching for the Dream Travel Companion I'm just curious about other people's opinions on what qualifies as perfect...

And really for me, looks don't matter, or I guess "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" also qualifies.

Finally I only listed a few stupid qualifications but really i'm more like Imonaghan and would prefer to be solo most of the time. and just meet up with random people when I feel like being sociable...

This has got me giggling guys!

I like someone whos never scared of doing new things. Thats my main criteria!

I travelled with girls last year and I have to say best friends or not they turned out to be complete wimps!

Good example; I wanted to play cards on the train in Malaysia, the loser had to eat a deep fried cochroach...NO ONE WOULD PLAY

sorry thats a bad example,
but I'm a bit of a tomboy (hate that expression much prefer 'blind stupid/adventurous')
I climbed across a deserted railway track in france to get to this gorgeous deserted beach but none of my friends would dare...

what a waste

now you know that my motto "do one thing that scares you everyday" isn't just a cheesy line.

Ditto here.

Prefer to travel solo and generally don't pre-plan any companions (or for long anyway). It's probably just as well really, as nobody is rarely stupid enough to travel with me anyway!

Mim - Does that mean you lost and had to eat the deepfried cockroach yourself?!
Leah - sorry, I knew what you mean't but couldn't resist it. ;) Btw, i would like to correct your quote - It should actually be "beauty is in the eye of the beer holder".

thats a great line!!! (beauty in the eye of the beer holder)

I'd like to add to that a line I actually heard from my Grandpa.

"Lips that liquor pucker quicker" :)

When you are back from your trip with this dream travel companion, can I borrow him?

Gelli- I didn't eat it because noone would play the game, the worst I've eaten is a chocolate covered cricket (like a cicada) which was actually quite tasty.
