I am looking for some work in the region of India (could be in India, could be in one of the surrounding countries). I am willing to do any sort of work, so long as the program doesnt cost me to participate in, and preferably pays a small amount (even if its just living costs). Any period of time from a few weeks to a year is cool...

I have 2 experience working with intellectually and physically disabled children, and am at univeristy in my 3rd (final) year studying a bachelor of communication studies. Im 20 and female..

any suggestions would be great

Hi Ingrid,

You can volunteer in India..that's no problem atall. However to my knowledge most volunteering organisations don't pay for the services.Ths is because they can not afford.A best they can provide you with accommodation only.
Would that interest you?

Hi Ingrid,

I appreciate your desire to work and travel at the same time... I wanted to know what kind of work would you be interested in?

If you wish to volunteer for some social projects then you can visit the internet sites of say UNICEF, CARE - India, Green Peace, WHO, CRY, Amnesty International can initiate a contact with the respective persons to apply as a volunteer. Moreover, you can contact some of these organisations in your Country and get more information on Exchange of Volunteers. You can also get in touch with the Indian Embassy in NZ to get more info. Pls. donot expect much, the best they can do is provide a small daily allowance for food etc. For accomodation I hope some of the other employess/ volunteers would help with a sharing accomodation.

I have a friend in India, she is working with CARE - India. If you are interested, I can try to get in touch with her to get more info. unfortunately as per the rules of the Forum, I cannot give you her email :-(

Best Wishes and Smiles.

hi Ingrid,

There are lot of options for one to take up volantary work in India, depends on what exaclty are you looking at.

If you are passionate about children may be you can opt for physically/mentally challenged children or if it is community social work that you are interested you in you can help certain tribal or gypsy communities.

I have been associated with NGO's like Greenpeace,CRY n certain other lesser known NGO's who are working in niche areas. If you can let me know more about your interests maybe i can be of some help to you.
