Hello there people,
I am planning a trip to South America from January 2007, for about 4 months or until my money runs out really.
I am a 19 year old girl, I live in London England, and I'm so scared and dont want to go on my own! At first I thought going by myself would be fine but have been reading up about it and firstly it could be a bit dangerous and secondly my spanish is very poor and I dont want to be stuck with nobody to talk to for 4 months!
I havent booked anything yet but the countries I'm planning to visit are probably Argentina, Brazil(I want to be there for carnaval), Peru and Chile. If anyone is going to S.A in January or will be there at some point at that time, it would be great to hear from you.
Or even you have any general tips or advice that would also be good.
Love Emily

im also tenatively planning on SA, leaving from home in the US around new years day 2007. argentina, peru, bolivia, chile or something like that. maybe also brazil since i have a friend i can stay with there, but that is a lot of travel to cram into 2-3 months.
i've travelled alone in the past(and probably on this trip too), and i can tell you that it is a bit scary at first (avoiding scams when leaving the airport), but then once you find out that you can do it (and you can) then it is really cool. you will meet plenty of other travellers along the way, just take a taxi when you arrive at the airport to one of the top recommended hostels in the Lonely Planet Guide and there you will find a ton of travellers to talk to and hang out with. if you start out on the well travelled tourist path, friends will be easy to find. then you can leave the beaten path with some travel partners.
yeah, you are right that it could be a bit dangerous for a solo young woman, especially not understanding the language, but im sure it isnt much worse than walking alone around shady parts of london at night. just be smart, make friends with other travellers, and you'll be fine.
keep in touch as you finalize your plans and maybe we can meet up down there.
hope that helped-

Hi Emily

My sister and I are planning to do CA/SA from Jan/Feb - we are from australia but will be in london from september. she is leaving UK mid january-ish to go to guatamala for 3-4 weeks to stay and study spanish at one of the schools. I will join her mid february and then we are planning to go to a few placees in CA then to do SA until end of march to mid april (also depending on when money runs out). we would love to meet up with people around the same age and mentality (well, we're 22 and 27 and love to muck about).

send me your email if you like and think our plans might fit in any way with yours.

I am desperate to travel south America from Jan 07 onwards - due to a lack of interest of my mates, I was going to join a group led thing, I’d really rather go on the unbeaten track but cant speak Spanish at present (- start a course in sept though) - I am 25, female, from Essex. Send me a msg if you like??

The carnival is my main aim……that’s my main reason for venturing over there really but there are so many other wicked things I want to do there, I wasn’t to see the falls, the Amazon, poss. the Inca trail and buy a poncho in Peru!!

I want to do Peru, Brazil and Chile, and as many others as money will allow as I would like to travel down onwards to the pacifics afterwards, looking at staying in south America for say 2-4 months?? Then I’m off down to Australasia and maybe onto South Africa or up through south East Asia, not sure on that bit yet….

Hey everyone. I was planning on a January trip to
South America and am hoping to get to Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia if possible. I am a 24 years old canadian female and I work as a travel agent here.

I was hoping to be gone for a few months and have an adventure, but like you guys I would not prefer to travel alone. Otherwise I'll do a trek tour like dragoman overland, I go for free since I'm an agent but I would prefer to travel with just a few travellers.

PM me if you wanna get a little group together.

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip in South America from January 07. Starting in Peru, working through Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil for carnival mid-end of Feb. I'd love to go to Salvador, and Buenos Aires, everything else I'm pretty flexible with. Plan to be there around 3 months, and would prefer not to do it alone also. So I'd love to join up with someone or a small group?

Happy to meet up in th UK before leaving and swap ideas, or for those outside the UK please do message me.

I am slowly but surely learning a tiny bit of Spanish too!

I'll be in Chile and Patagonia in January/Feb 2007 (arriving Jan 2nd/3rd), for a bit of hiking, a bit of exploring and general adventure, not sure how long I'll be there yet definitely 4 - 6 weeks and then if I have the time and money then maybe Paraguay/ Bolivia/ Peru
