in november the wife and i fly down from cairns to brisbane to stay with friends for approx 1 week, its our first time in australia, i hope to hire a motor home for 10/12 nights, can you sugest any places of intrest or things i must see or even a route to follow starting from brisbane, it would be possible to leave the motor home in another city e.g. melborne i do not have to take it back to brisbane.
any info would be great.
many thanks. garry

youd be crazy to drive to melbourne from brissy... even sydney would be a stretch if you want to spend time outside of the car..
try places like byron bay (i think its about 3 hours from brissy) nimban (if you smoke pot or like hippies) or the gold coast, coolangatta is fantastic so is surfers paradise. that whole area is full of small beach towns. but my favs are coolan. and byron
but if you are going in mid-late december beware of schoolies. after yeah 12 most of sydney goes to byron and surfers paradise and turn those places into drunken party towns for a few weeks meaning that accomodation can be really hard to find
have fun :D

I'd suggest driving down the east coast rather than inland as I find the scenery much nicer.

I agree that you should definately check out Byron Bay in your travels as its a beautiful area. Other cities that are very popular include Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Fosters.

It's possible to do the drive from Sydney to Brisbane in about 11-13 hours from memory, although that is pretty much driving straight through. A straight drive from Sydney to Melbourne is probably another 8-9 hours, again with just taking rest stops.
