I am used to my $10 - $20 per night AirCon hotel rooms, with private toilet/shower and HW that is pretty common in countries like Thailand and Laos.
Where can I go in Europe where my hotel rooms with A/C and HW will be around $10 to $20 per night? I haven't been in Europe for well over 20 years and that was before the "Iron Curtain" fell.
What are some good "cheap" countries to visit? When I was quite a bit younger I lived in Italy, Sicily, and Spain and had short visits to many of the (then) non Soviet Union countries.
Thank you.

Budapest Hungary is cheap is you stay in the villages outside of Budapest. Travel is cheap too. Slovakia is cheaper. Both these places are really nice in the summer. Last summer I travelled to Hungary, Slovakia and Austria. Austria is very expensive.

In Germany you can book in youth hostels a single room for less money. You will find them in whole Europe, but must be a member.
One problem is, that usually nowadays you have to book in advance, because they are so busy. Thats made me a bit angry and I cancelled my membership But if you can plan some days in advance it's a fine place - also for every age, not only for very young people - You can book via internet as well. The standard in Germany is very good, but you have to devide bathrooms with others.
Small pensions are an alternative.
A cheep country for travveling is also Turkey. You can get a small hotel or pension for perhaps 15 - 20 Euro/day including breakfast, food and going in a restaurant is also cheep, if you not stay in the huge tourist areas.
Sinse some years you can get very cheep flights inside of Europe, for example 20 - 50 Euro/oneway Germany-England. A lot of destinations are found at www.hlx.de or germanwings.de.
Expensive countries are Swizzerland, Austria, England and Skandinavia.

Karazyal, Serbia is very cheap these days and is really an interesting place to visit. Also Croatia, which is not as cheap since it's the next "Big Thing" if you read/believe the Travel Magazines but still cheap enough to still go to. Good Food, Good Wine and Beer, Nice People, and a lot of good looking women. Can't loose.........Zoom PS. The old Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Rep., Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania) are lower than the Western part of Europe but with the dollar being SO weak it's not gonna feel like Bangkok.....

Thanks for the reply. I was in Germany quite a while ago when I was in the Navy but for only short visits. I think I would feel a little out of place in hostel, too old now, but who knows? I always figured Germany was still more expensive than Britain, thing change I guess.
Thanks.
