thank you guys for all your help. i have already emailed the embassy and am going there on tuesday. i'll get back to you when i have more info. they funny thing is that a lot of americans here in italy are illegal! i ignorantly thought it wasnt such a big deal
Can you not rather go back to your own country straight away before you go to London? Even though it is more expensive? Because they do not check your passport on your way out of a country, and on your way back in to your own country you wont be checked of course.
so i went to the embassy to get a new passport because I "lost" my old one and when they asked me how long i had been here i told the truth. they didnt seem suprised and said if i went to london i should have no problems coming back to italy, but said it would be best to leave soon. with the new "temporary 1 year passport" no one would know my "mistake"
Hi Taras - great news! One question -- did you show up at the embassy without your passport, as if it was *truly* "lost"? Or did they help you with that? And did you arrive prepared with the forms & photographs necessary? Also, how long did it take for them to issue you the temporary passport? Glad to hear everything worked out. Ciao!
I showed up as if it was truly lost. my immigration lawyer friend in london helped me with that info. it took 24 hours but i payed close to 100 euro. so now i am in london, had no problems, we'll see if i get back to italy...will write later!
whoops, i paid...hmmmm
