I am assuming that you are talking about the Aranyaprathet, Thailand to Poipet, Cambodia crossing. I chose to fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap because of all the horror stories I heard in regards to the overland crossing. It was definately worth it. I was in Siem Reap early and was able to take my time looking for a guesthouse, walk around the city, get a massage, relax and plan my visit to the temples of Angkor at a liesurely pace instead of taking a long, uncomfortable bus ride and dealing with the hassle of Poipet. If you can afford it, do it. Cambodia is pretty cheap so if you spend a little more to fly there, you can easily make up the expense. Make sure to have $20 USD and two passport size photos for your visa on arrival at the Siem Reap International Airport. Grab a taxi from the airport (approx. $4 USD) to the area of town where you want to stay, easy and relaxing. You will thank yourself for flying when you hear the stories of those that went overland, trust me.

While in Seam Reap, check out the Grand Hotel d'Angkor. They have a happy hour in the Elephant Bar, two for one drinks. It's a cheap way to soak up the colonial ambience of this historical and beautiful hotel. They won't turn you away, even if you are a dirt backpacker. Check for times, I believe the happy hour is from 5pm - 7pm but it may have changed.

I crossed this border in July last year, the ride was a bit bumpy on the Cambodia side but was absolutely fine on the Thai side. If you cant really afford 100 quid for the flight, take the road, in my experience it was fine. The scenery is also pretty good too.
I always travel on a budget so my advice reflects this, I think I paid about US$10 for this bus trip.
Good luck!!
