For what it's worth, my sister just came back from SF and said it was freezing on Saturday. I assume it's bring-a-tshirt-and-a-sweater weather at the monent.

This time of year, the weather is pretty decent. Within San Francisco itself, you will probably wake up to chilly and foggy mornings, and will definately want a sweater of jacket. As the day progresses, the sun will burn off the fog and the temperature will start to climb. It probably won't get above 70F (18C) in the city, but it can feel quite warm in the sun. You'll want to dress in layers - things that you can take off and put on as the weather changes. It always is colder by the water.

If you go inland at all, you'll find the temperature can climb quite dramatically over small distances. If you are planning at all going into wine country, you might want temperatures in the 80s and very sunny.

There shouldn't be much rain this time of year.

In the month of march SF had 25 days of rain. Northern California got pummelled this spring but for the most part May in SF is very nice. I went to school in Berkeley and we could see SF from across the Bay...the morning's are foggy but when it clears it's usually gorgeous. 70s but be careful of wind.

One tip...don't call it San Fran or Frisco...locals prefer "The City"

It's a great city! Enjoy!

I went to San Francisco in September and the weather was beautiful - only saw the famous fog once in a 7 day long trip! Now this wont help you much - even though it was warm then though it still was cool enough at night to need a sweater or light jacket!

Gosh 6th May that means you must leave UK soil on Friday - its really close now l bet you are really excited!

Enjoy - l loved the city definately my favourite in the US!

September is the nicest month there, weather wise. San Francisco has weather patterns that don't match the rest of the U.S. The autumn (Sept and Oct) are the nicest months.
