Bad luck about the first interview - did you get your feed back yet? Im a great believer that things happen for a reason and there is always something better for you around the corner if you just look for it!

Have you looked at related careers around midwifery? Is there no health service jobs that you could look into? Does your local job centre offer careers advice that may show you other options you hadnt even thought about?

Fingers crossed for you for the next interview, and remember if its what you really want dont let the ba**ards get you down and dont give up (although lm sure you're probably fed hearing that right now!)

Thanks everyone for all the tips. Still waiting for feedback. I am hoping it will be encouraging. Its a really competitive course and tons of people apply year after year, so I suppose I did well just to get interviews the first time round....

I am expecting it will all be down to the lack of relevant experience. As usual, the difficult thing is how to get the experience. One related job is Health Care Assistant, they work in Hospitals kind of as an assistant to nurses. The problem is, despite the fact they only earn about £10k per year (I'm not kidding!) you need to have an NVQ level 2 in Care, and at least 6 months experience!!!

How on earth does one get the experience??? I have applied to volunteer at local hospitals, seems like a perfect opportunity because I can fit it around my current job, but unfortunatly they aren't taking anyone at the moment. Well, they weren't 3 months ago, but now they just aren't answering the phone....

Looks like this summers travel plans will be on hold for a few years.....:(

Quoting Q-Tip

Tall eastern european blondes with long legs......oh we're talking about interview questions.....never mind.....go on go on...

lol I was going to say generally men...

Clarabell...sorry to hear you didn't get into your course, if you don't get into the next which of course I hope you do and sheffield is wicked!!

Why not take some time out and get some experience in midwifery, for instance be a auxilary nurse for a couple of months on a birthing ward?? Im sure even just general hospital experience will do you some favours, volunteering is good but you can do the job and get paid...

If not you could try doing something else that would exemplify your skills suited to being a midwife, i.e care in the community...

hope that might help a bit!!

loads of luck!!
