I'm thinking about doing the whole 'camp counsellor' thing sometime next year maybe, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. I don't plan on saving money, so the salary is just to get me by. Where do you recommend? Was it a worthwhile experience? I'm planning to maybe be a camp counsellor for 2 months or so, then backpack for another month, staying at a few friends places.

i did ccusa in 2002 and had the most amazing experience of my life. I met so many great friends, and the kids were fantastic! I went to a co-ed camp in New York upstate and was a specialist counsellor, i was meant to go back in 2003 but was offered a job in Dubai. I regret that i didnt go back, and know so many people that keep returning year after year! I was also suggest not making any plans after camp as you will meet lots of people and plan to travel with them!

I would suggest going as a general counsellor. The money isnt too bad about 1400USD for the 8week duration, and if you can go to "pre camp" to help set up you will make friends before the majority of the other counsellors get there!! You wont need alot of money whilst on camp, only for trips on your day off, and drinking at night if you are allowed to... off camp ofcourse!

Go for it, you will have an amazing time , if you have the right attitude.

I also just had a reunion with my camp buddies last month and now want to go back!!
