Legal ages in the Netherlands.
We got this information, using Google, so we cant guarantee that these are the laws and we dont know if the laws are strictly adhered to.

>16 no alcohol
16 - 18 'weak' alcohol (up to 15%)

18 (max to buy: 5 grams) Coffeeshops are quickly shut down if they're found serving under 18s

16, I think: it's legal for any adult to have sex with anyone over 16. Wouldn't surprise me if most prostitutes would not touch persons they regard as kiddies however, even if they're 16+.

Inviting escorts to Hotels: not likely accepted by 'decent' hotels (which would be most of them) - in any case, it's up to their discretion.

You're sure your BF is from Holland, Mel? ;)

Legal age for just about everything Holland is 18; for weak alcoholic drinks (i.e. beer, but no breezers and similar shit) it is 16, but you can just have 1 or 2.

I can see no reason, why my boyfriend would tell me he is from Holland, if he is not. I think he is from Holland. We got the information, about the laws, on the internet.

But there are a lot of laws in Holland, which seem to contradict other laws. It is confusing, for people looking for info, about whether or not they can get in trouble, for doing certain things.
For example, smoking marijuana is officially illegal, but at the same time there is a legal age, under which one is not allowed to smoke it.

Quoting spikey

I'm planning on going to amsterdam and I want to know what I can carry on me weapon wise, like knives and such. I don't like to be walking around places that are known for pick pocketing and not be ready to take care of myself lol...

Ah, the ol' "take that, you pickpocket"-defensive knifing maneuvre. Well, maybe I would also want to knife someone who would dare to steal my wallet -- perhaps that is why I don't carry a knife -- other than the good old SAK with the corkscrew (much more useful IMO).

Once again: it isn't drugs legislation itself that makes the Netherlands 'special', it is the way in which this legislation is enforced (or rather, NOT enforced)...

I wouldn't know about your other questions, but wouldn't you rather hook up with a fellow traveller than buy satisfaction of your needs? Can't help feeling a bit sorry for you

But there's no accounting for taste, I guess. Enjoy Amsterdam anyway. Just don't forget to actually go and see stuff, too.

drugs is rife in amsterdam...cocaine, e, blow, you want it you can have it.

the only city in the world that i know off were they sell it to you shouting it out! in front of the police! and its the real stuff too.

though its illegal police are not bothered! they seem to believe that they got other and better things to do.

drinking in amsterdam is very expensive! almost the same price if not as what one pays for in dublin / london...eating out is cheaper though

they cant seem to drink beer too get little glasses of beer (as standard) which is for little boys when i want to drink a full pint of beer = mans beer. though when you request a pint then you normally get a pint.

also when one orders beer half the glass is full of froth! head! foam! whats that about? which means you lose more drink!!!! some places in germany do the same as well.

its kinda silly because i have been to some pubs were its just small glasses which means every 2 min i am going up to the bar....barely get a mouthful of the stuff!

Hello Gwar

My boyfriend is from the Netherlands.
Here is his answer, to your question

Heh, I never visited any occasional girls, so I wouldn't have a clue. A little sachet of grass should cost 10-15 Euros I think. But they list the prices for everyone to see, so you won't get ripped off. Don't forget, these are proper shops, what they do is legal and they have to abide by the law to keep their permit to sell stuff.

Different laws? Not really. In the Netherlands you're less likely to get sued over anything I guess
