Travel Forums Round the World Travel How should I book this ticket? Advice please!

I just got a job as an aupair in Vietnam. The family is willing to buy my round trip ticket there and back from North Carolina. However, I can't find an onlineflight search engine that will let me choose a date that far in advance. I need to fly out August '06 and back home August '07.

My ideas are vague... open-ended ticket? But I've heard that it will only be vaild one year from pruchase date, not arrival in country date. Two one-way tickets, bought at spearate times? My guess is way more expensive...

Anyone have any ideas??

You probably won't be able to buy a ticket this far in advance, mainly because the airlines still haven't set their schedules for those dates. For all you know, they may end up dropping some of those routes.

I'd say your best bet would be to go to a travel agent. I'm not sure if they can, but there's a chance they could give you an open ended ticket for around the date that you'd like. I was able to get an open ended ticket to Australia that was good for one year from the date of travel, not from the purchase date, so hopefully you can too. When I bought the ticket, I needed to select a return date, but I was able to change it for free once the airline had their schedule for my return.

Simply put, just seek out a few different travel agents around where you live. They'll be the best to help, and can hopefully get you a good deal.

i used to work as travel agent and i can tell that 12 months from today in the future is the maximum you can book and usually it's something like ten or eleven months. the booking engines only use months and not years. like you booking confirmations etc. say 12JUN or 20AUG and there's never any indication of the year.

yes, visit a travel agent and book an open ticket and confirm your ticket in vietnam in some TRUSTWORTHY travel agent. and remember the ticket is valid only for 12 months from your date of departure.

where actually in vietnam you'll go to ? it's a wonderful country - try to travel around as much as possible!
