You could always try the accommodation link on the left of the screen

It's reliable, but outside Amsterdam, Rome and probably London, I'd not recommend using it. It's usually easy enough to find accommodation on the spot.

Ive booked quite a bit of our accomodation for Australia & New Zealand with them and they have been great - we have had direct emails back from all the hostels saying they have received our booking which is reassuring.

I used it to book a few times in Mexico, no problems. During high season in huge tourist areas (ex.Cancun), I strongly recommend booking ahead.

Which directs to hostelworld, so six of one half dozen of the other.
I've used them via this site, and had no problems. There are a few complaints I've seen now and again.
Generally, though, I tend not to book in advance.

Just a quick one but i have used hostelworld several times and had no major problems. However, if you do decide to book in advance - something i always do, cos im somewhat anal when it comes to planning - then find the hostels on hostelworld and then go search on google for them. if they have their own site is much better as you get a different view of the place, and you wont normally have to pay a fee to them like you do hostelworld.
Just my 2 yens worth..
