Travel Forums System Talk Reporting non-spam posts

I have a suggestion for the next time somebody fiddles with the system.

Often I come across posts that are in the wrong forums, or have personal emails or urls of personal websites in them. Yet they aren't spam, and I can't use the spam function to call a mod's attention to them.

Couldn't you add a function to this regard? Maybe as a drop down option in the spam function? Like "Why is this spam?" "other: wrong forum, personal emails and personal websites in post" or something similar.

Hey Maria!

You are a Respected Member so you should have the spam function. But, if something is not taken care of in a timely manner - contact the Moderator for that forum and tell them where the problem lies - they will do their best to fix it. Sam has stickied a thread in this forum listing the Moderators and the forums they oversee.

This subject has been brought up before, but I'm not sure what Sam and Peter's current thinking is on it. Anyway, check the Mod listing so you know who to contact. When something arises - tell them.

Thanks for helping us out!

Yes, I do have the "report spam" funktion. It just doesn't feel right to use it to call a mods' attention to a post when some newbie has only posted in the wrong forum.

I think that such a funktion could be beneficial, especially the way TP is growing. There is no way a mod can read all posts in a forum. (Ok, he/she can, but it is a waste of time if it is just to check whether a thread complies with the rules.)

You are not alone with not wanting to flag someone for a minor infraction of the rules. And, I forgot to say that I have agreed with adding that choice to the spam button in earlier replies. I know that I don't necessarily read all the replies in all of my forums. I have come to recognise regular posters so that helps cut down on the number to really look at - though I try hard to check out the new members/threads frequently. (Some are always going to slip by.) Members are good at letting us know when they spot something that isn't spam but also isn't all right. Until there's a working alternative - I really appreciate their help. ;)

I can tell you that I know 3 people who have read every reply to every thread in every forum on TP. Yeah - they have no life!!! But, they also admit to it too! (I'm not one of them.)

It's a fair point. The question is always whether it's worth spending the extra time adding it. I don't think for instance that posts should be flagged as 'SPAM' and blocked from view if they are merely in the wrong forum. So unfortunately it's not as simple as just adding a new category.

That said, it's probably a good idea to introduce a few more management options like that.
