Traveling to Maccu Piccu this July. Any recommendations on shoes? Hiking boots or trek shoes? Two pairs? What about shorts vs. long pants? I've heard about little bugs that are ferocious in the area.

Your in for an experience! I was there in March and it was hot but as soon as we got there there was a quick drenching downpour. No big deal, then the sun came out. We took a bus to the top and let me tell you that's scary. No guidrails, one lane dirt road in the rain, and several thousand foot drop. What a rush!! Bugs, I didn't see any. I don't know about July though. So all I brought was a good pair of running sneakers and I was fine. Now if your hiking on the Inca trail for days, that's different. I would probably bring something other then sneaks. But when you walk through with your ticket and you walk along the trail and all of a sudden you reach the opening and what your staring at looks like a painting. It looks unreal, like you can reach out and touch it. With the other peaks towering around it and the raging Urambamba below. No kidding, it will blow you away. Check out my picture in my profile, it looks fake doesn't it. Machuu Pichu is a place where it is impossible to take a bad picture and should be on the top of any travelers list. Have a blast..:)

oh sorry forgot about clothes. I wore jeans and a long sleeve cotton button up shirt. I was a little sweaty but I didn't want to get sunburn, cause the sun was strong!
