My parents met on a cruise ship - my dad was a pastry chef working on board and my mom was the traveler.

I´ve met my BF during an eight months trip in NZ. Actually I was going to see all of the two islands and was working quite hard to save money for travelling in the first four months. I never went out or did meet many people to save as much as possible. But then I got to know a young german guy and we went out together. While we were just talking and enjoying a few beers a not very good looking (at that time...) guy introduced himself and kept talking to us. We went to an other bar to get rid of him but he followed us. Eventually I realized how nice he actually was and so I enjoyed talking to him. The next nights we went out again and had great fun. Maybe after one week you could already call us a couple... Because of him I did´t get much to see of NZ, I spent nearly all the last four months with him in his home town (Wanaka). But I really don´t feel sorry about that, we had a great time. After I had to leave we haven´t seen us the next nine months, we only stayed in contact by phone and skype. The last three months he came to Germany and lived at my place (in a 10m² room and we didn´t get bored of each other!). Unfortunatly he couldn´t get a job here without speaking german, so last week he moved on to England/Birmingham. I don´t know when we will meet again or how it is going to end because I can´t leave at the moment (I am studying medicine and really want to finish it). But I know that I love him and I never want to be with anybody else...

What about a not-so-cute story? Well, it was cute but we're not together now... Anyway: I went to NZ for a year to study, but before school started I headed out travelling for three weeks. On a bus I saw this guy. He had a spare seat beside him, but I was too shy (and he was too good looking) so I looked around for another seat - when he said "you can sit here if you want to"... We started talking, it turns out that he's Canadian and has been travelling NZ for months and months but now he's only got one week left! Although we spent most of the time that last week together, he came visit me in Auckland and came to school with me (pretending to be an exchange student too) - and during my exchange year in NZ I went to see him in Toronto twice!!! Crazy, I know, but we were so much in love... However, during my last visit we realized that we were living to far apart, after NZ I had to go back to Sweden to finish uni, and he was stuck with a job in Toronto for years - and it just didn't work out. But it was extremely romantic as long as it was!

I haven't had time to read all the stories yet, but I'll defintely tell mine (and I'll try to keep it short, promise!)

After my graduation (age 19) in 2003 I went to NZ to work as a Nanny.
There was a handsome and really nice guy called Charles (from ZA) working for the same family, as a Farm Manager. After a few weeks we ended up dating and soon we found out that it was a very serious relationship (back then he was 24)

The way it is, I had to leave NZ after 1yr (my visa expired). From the moment I set foot on the plane, I knew I was gonna go back- somehow. Visa regulations actually didn't allow me to go back for another yr, but I like 'beating the system'.;)

Anyway, I was in Austria for 6 months, my bf in NZ. Phonebills were high, we talked at least once a day, chatted online, wrote emails and lots of letters.

Later we managed to get me a visa again (after a lot of hassle, that's why I am an expert on that kind of stuff) and in Dec 2004 I went back to NZ. We stayed there for another 1,5yrs (we got engaged on New Years Eve in 2005) and then decided to go to ZA/AUT.
2months ago we got married in ZA, again there was a lot of hassle with ZA authorities etc. but we did it (paper stuff) and arrived here in AUT 3 days ago.

There will be another small wedding for the austrian family here and I'm happy to b back at home again.
There r a few more challenges waiting for us, but by now I've learned: always stay positive (negativity doesn't halp anyone); always inform yourself and ask people lots of questions; and most importantly: everything is gonna work out, if you believe in it!!!

I hope u enjoyed our story

Great stories... so here goes :)

Had a brain hemmorhage in 2000. recovered by 2001. had midlife crisis in 2002. Flew to NZ for a pals wedding in 2003. Backpacked NZ before heading to South America. Met a nice girl in first week in NZ. travelled around NZ for 3 months with her. She was going to OZ. I was heading to South America. Had a bet with her that either I went to Oz with her... or she'd come to South America with me. She won the bet. Changed my route. Drove around OZ in a campervan in 2004. Settled in Manly in Sydney and got proper jobs. End of 2005 we both Left Sydney, via Hong Kong , Bali as it was time to continue travelling (we still had the bug!). Came back to the UK. Both got jobs in Dublin. Still working here until November when she pays back the bet and we head off to South America for a year or more! Can't wait :)

Best thing is I went half way round the world and meet a girl who lived less than 100k's from me in the UK.

It's a small world :)

Well, I always get an OHHH! when I tell my story but sum of the ones I have jst read make this pale in comparison but here goes. Came to the UK from Australia when I was 18, jst wanted to travel and be myself for awhile. Went to Jersey with a bunch of fellow travellers to save enough money for the dream Sth Africa trip. Got bored came back to london to work in a pub and wait for them to catch me up. Went into work on halloween 2000 and met my soulmate, we went out that night, and didn't have a day apart from then on. Turns out he was a Scots Guard, u no the guys that stand out the front of Buckingham Palace and guard the queen! My parents were thrilled. Anyway we have been married for 5 and a half years now and still going strong. We were together for 4mths wen we got engaged and married 2 mths after that. wot can I say - when you know you know!!

There's no happy ending like most of you guys, but mine is more up and down.... LoL...

I've met him on a group tour to Victoria on my last week in Vancouver. The first time I saw him, he was already on the bus and I thought he was so good-looking, he got that European feel in him and I wanted to talk to him. I got in the bus and I haven't talked to him for half a day because he was so far away from where I sat. I finally talked to him when we were heading off to a garden in Victoria (I forgot what it called), so I made sure I sat beside him and a Venezuelien guy. I asked the South America guy something in Spanish, if it means girlfriend and he was listening with a big smile on his face, so I grabbed the chance and start talking to him. He's from Switzerland, so he's Swiss-French... I love his French accent so much, it's so soft and sexy xD.

All throughout our trip in Victoria which last for two days, we were together but he was the one who fell in love with me on the first day we met. We started hanging out together on my last week in Vancouver, and he got two weeks left there,so he made sure we get to spend as much time as possible. He pmed me on my cellphone each day when I was in Class, he constantly asked me to hang with him after class, so I was like... Okay, but I got tired of it after two days, I mean he's cute in all but that's it, I don't have any feelings for him, except he believed that I share the same feeling too, so I got him dragged left and right, thinking there's hope that we'll be together. On our fifth day together, I told him if he likes me and he said he does and I told him the truth... It literaly broke his heart, so I felt guilty and I made the stupidest mistake, I lied to him that night, saying I love him back... I got a nightmare that night because he gave me two tongue kisses, it might seem normal to you guys, but I never experience this and I was completly off guard and I was 16 at that time.

To make it more shorter my story..

The next day, I broke up with him. Right now, I have feelings for him (I think I miss him) and I'm not sure if he still does or if he moves on already. We still write email to each other from times to times and I'm not sure if we'll see each other again... although, I'm planning to go back there to see if my feelings are real, if it is, I'll grab the chance to seduce him... ;)

Sadly, not! I did however have a lot of dirty old fat western men harrassing me for sex throughout SEAsia...I started to understand the pressures the Thai and Cambodian women go through!!! They dont take no for an literally have to completely avoid them for a few days...

I met my BF backpacking in Thailand. We were both on solo trips..and yes this is true and not a plug for travellerspoint..but we did make contact initially on this forum! We exchanged travel itineraries and he met me in the airport in Bangkok upon my arrival. We ended up travelling together and got on great as friends. After a month, somewhere between Cambodia and Thailand..we realized we were in love. We travelled for 3 months together then went back to our countries. I lived in Canada and him in England. We did the long distance thing for 7 months and then I moved to England to live with him. I've been here 5 months already and things are going fantastic!
