Dear all,

I'm just looking for opinions on which of these three countries people like best? What are the main differences in terms of culture and things to see etc between all them? If you could only go to one, which would you go to?

Also, apart Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, are there any other places that sholdn't be missed?

PS I'm thinking of going in July or August

Dear Clarabell,

How are you? I am fine.

Looks like no-one is replying, so I thought I'd drop you a line and increase my promotion prospects. Unfortunately, I've never been to these countries, so I can't help.

Best regards,

HI Clarabell!

I´ve just seen your thread so it´s now that i´ll try to answer.

I´ve been to this three countries you mention and i really liked them. Maybe it is Estonia the one i better know as i was visiting some different regions. Going to the island of Saarema was a great experience: quiet and beautiful island. Tallin is a lively small capital with incredible nightlife. Tartu is the universitary city of the country but maybe a little bit empty during summer holydays. Lake Peipsi is also very interesting, being half russian and half estonian and completly frozen during winter time, with a lot of small fishermen villages with the typical wooden houses of these countries around it.... The east side has beautiful long beaches and there you´ll find a more russian speaking region, the northern east region is an old industrial area and that has its consequences on the landscape and cityscape. Though for me and my work as photographer it was very interesting.

About Latvia i can tell you about Riga that it´s a very cultural capital with lots of musicians in the streets and great nightlife. Its art nouveau neighbourhood it´s very beautiful as indeed it is all the old town. The market is really lively with a big mixture of people trading..... and you should pay a visit to the coast of the country.

Lithuania for me it was the funniest place, though it´s just a personal feeling. Its capital is really interesting and with a lot of contrasts, though for being smaller than the capital cities of the other countries it is easly to notice some differerences as in nightlife. Maybe Vilnius is the less turisitical capital of the three. Don´t forget to go to the crosses hill and Trakai. Here i had the feeling that also the city was a little bit empty maybe as it was mid july and it´s not so big.

Anyway, these three countries are beautiful and interesting, with very friendly population. Estonia, at least its capital seems to be a north european country as if it was Finland or Norway... In Lithuania, for historical reasons you´ll find more mixed racial people, i mean that for me, coming from Spain they didn´t look like so much as northern people as in the other countries they did.

For me it´s difficult to tell you wich one to visit, and please don´t get wrong cause i was writting more about Estonia, it´s beacuse it was just the beginning of my post ;)

Finally, about going to Poland from Vilnius, i took a night bus from there directly to Warsaw, it was a 9 hours trip. As far as i can remember you have different buses during the day to choose the more interesting for you...

good luck and enjoy your trip!

Sorry Mikey but your link does not work.

Next week I am travelling Amsterdam - Berlin - Krakow - Warsaw - Vilnius - Riga - Tallinn - Helsinki. In a few weeks I can write what is nice to do.

On the websites and I found out there was a train from Warsaw to Vilnius and also from Vilnius to Riga. Between Riga and Tallinn there are no busses so I have to take a bus I think.

After back from holiday I will inform more,

I went to Riga and really enjoyed it. I stayed right on the edge of the Old Town by the river. There's a neat museum on the Russian occupation. Cool old buildings and interesting people. The hostel I stayed at arranged for a car to pick me up from the airport. When I got there a Mercedes was waiting for me and it only cost me $10. I haven't been to estonia yet, but would like to sometime. I would imagine that any place you go to will be enjoyable.

Just got back and I must say : I LOVE THE BALTICS !!

Especially Riga, Latvia is absolutly fantastic and very cheap. Vilnius, Lithuania is a nice city with an amazing museam : genocide museum ! Tallinn, Estonia was also nice but a little bit too much tourist inside the old town.

I really can recommend the baltic countrys for your holiday. People all speak english and are willing to help you. The countrys are very cheap comparing to the Netherlands and the girls are.. fantastic and very beautifull. There are a lot of nice sights to visit.
