Do you know how far away the Great Wall of China is from these other countries?!

The great wall of China is actually not that near. Its near beijing. But it is not impossible to reach. Since Bangkok will be your "base camp", I would suggest the following route:

Thailand - cambodia - Vietnam - Beijing - Laos - Thailand.

If you skip the Great Wall, its a nice round trip.

I agree with Jlala for the routing plan. Here are some additional info. with budget concern you mentioned.
-From Bkk, Thailand; you can travel by train or bus to the border town of Aranyaprateth. Cross here into Cambodia town of Poi Pet, then by taxi to Siem Reap. Visit Angkor temples. Boat or bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, use it as a base to discover more of the country -the wild northeastern province (Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri) by bus/taxi; the beach town of Sihanouk Ville, Kep to the south by bus. Back to Phnom Penh
-From Phnom Penh, take direct bus to Saigon. Discover Saigon and the south. Take a unification train or "open bus ticket" (you buy one ticket but can make stop(s) and continue with that ticket) to the central highland, beach, Danang, Hue, etc. all the way to Hanoi. See Hanoi and the north, Halong Bay, etc.
-From Hanoi you can enter China by going to the border town in the far north, or to Lao Cai to the northwest (in which you should have time for Sapa) by train. I don't know how to move around in China for your great wall but I am sure you know.
-You can then enter to Lao via Heho/Boten crossing in Luang Namtha province of Lao PDR. Then Boat to Luang Prabang, Vientian.
-Back to Thailand from Vientiane by crossing the Friendship Bridge to Nongkhai province of Thailand. Train or bus to Bangkok, or make a stop for the northeast of Thailand on the way. Train/bus to Bangkok.

Enjoy your trip.
