I am hoping to visit cambodia with a friend late Augusr for 4/5 days. We've been trying to decide on a budget guest house approx USD 10 per night(with A/C and Private Bathrooms), which also offer package tours. After looking at some websites and contacting via e-mail, we have narrowed down to a few guest houses as possible options. I'd be very greatful if anyone could give any opinions/reviews of the following places:
1) Baca Villa(Web Site:
2) Ancient Angkor Guesthouse(Web Site: )
3) Dead Fish Tower Inn
4) Hostel Geckoo’s Nest

Any ideas/opinions would be very helpful!

I have stayed at the ancient angkor guesthouse, & would recommend it. The rooms are simple, but have a/c, tv, private bathroom, you also get a free breakfast. I think we paid $13 for a double room It's run by a family who are very friendly & helpful. The only disadvantage is the location, it is not far from Siem Reap centre, only about 10 mins walk, but the street lighting is not very good when walking back at night time, although I didn't feel unsafe, the road felt dark & I couldn't see very well where I was walking. And if you are there during the rainy season, the road will be full of mud! We were there in February this year & it had only rained one afternoon & the road was a muddy mess! Saying that the pavements might now be finished, they were workind around the whole town fixing the pavements while I was there.

I also ate at the dead fish tower, interesting & quirky restaurant, couldn't tell you what their guesthouse is like though.

We stayed in the Dead Fish and had no problems at all. All of their rooms are different, ranging from about 25usd down to 5, but the two i stayed in (a 7usd with a friend, then a 5usd alone for a night) were both fine. The 5usd was at the top of a ladder on its own level overlooking the whole complex, but no problem. The 5usd was shared bathroom etc, but 7usd was en suite with air con.

And agree that it's definitely a cool and quirky place to visit anyway (live crocodilles in a pit in the restaurant amongst others) and the restaurant is very good
