Having now decided to extend my trip to include Asia I am wondering if my standard, so far unused, 30 page passport will be enough.
I will be travelling Cairo to Capetown for which I am told I shall need 16 clear sides minimum. From Cape Town I have a tentative itinerary...
Malawi, Kenya, Madagascar,Mauritius the accross to Asia to cover Malaysia, Indonesia, up through Thailand then Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Tajakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, then poss home through europe or back to India depending how finances are going.

If anyone has ever done this route or any of the countries, in particular, central asia and can offer any advise, I would be extremely grateful!

You'll need more, but don't worry about it.

If you need 16clear pages for visas, don't forget that you will need a load for stamps as well. And don't expect everybody to line stamps up perfectly neetly and using the space properly...

Your best bet is that when you get down to 4 or 5 spare free pages, to think about getting a anew passport. It's relatively easy at most embassys, especially if yours is (a) almost full and (b) with you so they can see it. However, a few countries DON'T allow it to be done through embassys, and a few smaller embassys and consulates don't have the ability for new passports, so a little forward planning will help.

It's not an uncommon problem for travellers, but there's not much you can do beforehand, with the exception of the US and very few other countries that will add extra pages. And if you are from one of them, then tyou can do that before you leave.

By filling our this form and paying 60 USD ~ Oh, and I love this added at the very end.........
If you need your passport back in less than 2 weeks for international travel or within 4 weeks for foreign visas, you may submit Form DS-4085 in person at a Regional Passport Agency.
