Hi, I'd like to know how much I would need to spend a month in Goa during this time?

I understand prices can go up alot during this time.

I'd like to stay in guest houses.

Lucky you.
I was meant to be there this Xmas just gone,05, but got crook up in the other Ex Portaguese enclave in the North West of India called "Diu" and had to depart India for civilised medical attention, therefore postponing my Goa New years experience.
I do recall its important to book early for Goa, and obviously you will pay a premium,so get it booked NOW.
But its "Party Central" in Goa during that period, even the Indians hit the place,so expect some stiff prices.
Lonely planet Thorn tree" is Informative "
By the way, I dont recommend anyone uses up energy or time visiting "Diu" Its a hell of a difficult place to get to,and except for the old Portaguese fortress and past colonial history etc,its a tough slog to get there.

Hi! I was there the same time last year, and yes, acommodation prices were sometimes double/triple guidebook prices. Palolem was the priciest (and nicest) place we visited - pretty basic but nice beach hut at r1500 (about £17) a night. Also went to Colva and Anjuna where we found much cheaper places - v. v. basic at r350 and pretty decent guesthouse at r600. To give you an idea, I spent roughly £300 in 2 wks incl acommodation, eating out the whole time, rickshaws, club entrances on Christmas Eve and drinking rather a lot of booze. Have a great trip!

I was in Goa 3 years ago for this period, staying at the Sheltsa guest house and paying £7 a night for a double room, shower etc and t.v. Great little garden guest house run by a sri lankan couple, clean and quiet, just a few minutes walk from the C.S.M road on the main road into Calengute also near to the nightlife.

Bumping up this old thread as I need some advice!

We're looking to spend Christmas in Goa but cant find any decently priced accomodation. I'd like to stay in beach huts if possible - does anyone know whether there will still be any available for this period if we just arrive on the day and try to get one?

Also - whats the best beach to stay on for Christmas festivites?

I know a mid-sized guest house on Calangute Beach thats renting at 2500 Rupees a room a night after 23rd December..

Thats steep! You need to book early and that will cut down the cost substantially..

Colva is always a good place to pitch up - loads of cheap rooms - ask in any bar there are lots down the main road - also further south Benaulim.
Palolem is very commercialised now but there are plenty of beach huts. Expect to get ripped off if u have not been before - haggle hard!! Very hard!!
