i don't know much about tahiti - but am in Moorea at the moment. You could easily get the ferry/fly across cheaply for the day or over night - there are some great waterfalls here, or just rent a bike to ride around the island - it's far less populated/developed than tahiti - and i'm deffinately enjoying my time here (the sheraton has the best nearshore snorkelling)

6 nights in tahiti, lucky you. First You need to know that to do a tour of the island it takes you less than a day. The best way for the tour is to rent a car. Or take a 4*4 tour which cross the island from of side to the other.

Museum of Tahiti and her islands
Black pearl museum
Anchors of Captain Cook and Bougainville (PK38).
Marae Temples (PK 22.5)
Paul Gauguin Museum
Grotto cave´s Mara´a (you can swim there)
Tomb of king Pomare V (last king of french polynesia) (PK4.7 arue)
Barbecue on the Taravao beach.
Golf 18 holes
Tahiti market
presidential house

Water activities if you want to dive i used to work for the best company so let me know.

And as samham said you can take the boat and cross to Moorea but really there is a lot of things to do in Tahiti.

Enjoy it i lived there for 16 years and it´s the best place on earth for me.

have you considered having a look at Bora Bora?

I just thought i will pump up one more time on this one. Bora Bora is really nice especially since the road have been redone in 2000. However to appreciate six days on Bora Bora you have two options only:

You are on Honeymoon (and really really in love),or addicted to scuba (and still) Bora doesn´t have half of the things you can do in Tahiti on even on Moorea.

Dont take me wrong I like bora but it gets a bit boring and i come from rangiora so imagine.
