Right, I have just packed in my job and a rtw trip awaits! This is just a rough estimate, but would people mind checking out my proposed budget for the 8 months i'm gonna be away and let me know if its realistic:

NZ - 3 months - working so self sufficient
Australia - 1 month - £1000
Malasia and Thailand - 4 months - £2000
rtw ticket, visas and extras - £1500

Really greatful for any advice

From the amount of people I have spoken to, your budget sounds
ok - but take into consideration what you want from you trip.
Will this involve cheap accommodation i.e hostels - what about activities etc.
On an average Oz for a month, could do on £750.
But again, its all about what you want.just keep researching and the answers will flood to you.
Good luck and safe travels..

Also, bear in mind you might want a bit of money to set yourself up in New Zealand, even if you are planning on working.

I spent 5mths in SE Asia, 1 month in Oz, and 2 months in NZ - took £7k and came back with £3k. I was shoestring, I didnt drink, but I did do two helicopter flights in NZ and a few other expensive activities, but I was well chuffed with my lack of spend!

how did you get around oz and nz? And much did it cost? I think that's what I'm so concerned about. It seems like everything I read cost so a hundred if not more USD. Buses, ferries, trains...oh my..

any suggestions?
