You should not worry about travelling alone...You will meet plenty of people in Dublin and all over Europe.

Youll have no problems at all. Especially in Dublin!

Done it countless times - most people on this site have as well.

Yes it is reasonably easy to meet fellow backpackers if you are using public transportations and staying in youth hostels.
I have observed that for some reasons the probability of meeting backpackers and having a party tends to increase when you get to remote locations with little tourists and nightclubs.
Meeting with locals can be difficult in large touristic centres. I don't want to generalise but the probability of meeting nice and helpful locals depends on the country too.
You are much more likely to meet nice and welcoming people in a village lost in the middle of Ireland or Turkey than in Paris or London.
Actually Ireland and Turkey are very lone-traveller-friendly because people tend to be so nice and helpful.
