I'd do it myself, but its your call. Just take some money and have a good time.

I think we could help better if we had an idea of what you are looking for. Or are you just randomly travelling between NYC/LA? If you are randomly travelling around, Delthefunk made a good point in that you should do it yourself. If you have specific goals, then you can probably google that goal and might be able to find a travel company that suits your needs. I've found that unless you own a car in the US travelling isn't cheap. Bus tickets can get expensive and not all cities have good public transportation systems; guess I'm spoiled by all mine non-US travel.

If you are in the mid-west might want to check out megabus (never taken them) but have heard good stories (ie dirt CHEAP). GL on your travels.

There is a great little bus company called Green Tortoise. Google that and they might have a trip around parts or the whole part of the states. They change the trips from time to time, so I am not sure what they would be. Generally, you ride around in a big hippie bus with a lot of other people all looking to do the same thing. It is a great idea to share your experiences and looks like alot of fun too. If you are interested in seeing the sights and having a good time, this is a good place to start.
