there are no hostels as such in Puno. They may advertise as hostels but they are usually hotels there. In Puno i stayed in the Hotel Arequipa.I stopped at Copacabana but never stayed the night. Its going to be the same i think so i would look into hotels.

Lots of hostels in Copacabana, so just shop around; none in Puno. Puno isn't worth staying, anyways.

i stayed in Puno for 2 nights and also while i was there i took a trip to 3 islands from there which was fantastic. The trip lasted 2 days and 1 night with a local family on one of the islands.I would certainly say its worth doing. You get dressed up in local gear that night and all go dancing to local music which was a great laugh.

I stayed at two different budget hotels in Puno and they were both terrible, so try to book ahead if you want to be assured of some quality place. In Copacabana, there is Hostal Colonial; fantastic. Its in the same building as the Tour Peru bus company office. Very clean, very safe, good restaurant in building, breakfast included, plenty of hot water, only $5 a night for a single room with bathroom.

Ther are some hostels/ cheap hotels arround the bus terminal,Copacabana, Bolivia. I have spent 3 days there ,it cost 70 Bolivian pesoes for 2 persons per night with breakfast, and the room is very clean and tiny. Some of those hostels may be cheaper than this.
