I was just wanting some opinions from people that have either taken an oz experience trip or done their own travelling up the east coast of australia (sydney to cairns or vice versa). We have about 6 weeks there and want to make the most of it. The train passes look cheep but I have heard that they are useless past Brisbane (north) because you have to take a bus back out to the coast anyways. We are looking to have a more active outdoorsy trip, surfing hiking, snorkleing etc.... Any advice or opinions would be great!

Oz Experience is door to door transport with a bunch of good stuff in between. You can get on and off the bus in between journeys and stay anywhere as long as you like. It does require a bit of forward planning to pre-book your next forward journey, but then with only 6-weeks you'd be doing that anyway. They'll pre-book your hostels and help you with activities as well. Some say they force you into places they want you to stay; I say "so what?" You have to sleep somewhere and you're going there anyway. Express bus is another good option: again forward planning is required. They don't quite drop you door to door, but then hostels do pick ups at all the bus stops anyway. As far as booking your next bed goes you'll find that the front desk at your current hostel will do the forward booking for you. Unless you really like trains I'd avoid this option. Too much time wasted on secondary means of transport getting to where you're going.

With only 6-weeks and you're only here once etc, etc my money is on Oz Experience.

Thanks for the advice majito! Yesh I been thinking about it and the convenience alone would make up for any savings we would get elsewhere. plus I saw that they have surfing lessons which would be SWEET!! Now I just have to get a Rash Guard and lots of sunscreen.
Another question; how's the weather in october??

Hiya, booked mine with the Oz Experience and am going in 5 1/2 weeks on my own for 3 months! I thought it was the right option for me, also gives you the flexibility of independant travel. Might see you there! Manda x

If the weather in October is anything like today in Sydney it will be great. We're having a weird spring day of 24 degrees. As you head North it will get warmer and warmer. 25-26 average the in Brisbane area; 27-30 in North Queensland. Sydney and surrounds in October averages 23-25 maximum. There's a guide on this page.
