Hey Ginaf, and welcome to TP. Check out the Mediterranean - Cyprus is nice is you want an all inclusive. You'll enjoy Limassol.

Hello Ginaf
I have to warn u, that i am about to be negative.
I hated Cuba. Of the 30 countries,i have been to, in my life, this is at the bottom of my list for liking. In fact it does not even make the list.
Problem is the dictatorship government has completely taken over and controls tourism. Greedy, does not even start to describe them.
In all other countries, i at least found some things to like and sometimes a lot of things to like.
What about Rio, in Brazil? They would have everything from backpacking to resort type accomodation. And it is beautiful, there.

I have a recommendation: Gran Canaria (=Grand Canary Islands).

I can especially recommend one hotel: RIU Gran Canaria Maspalomas. It is a 4 and a half star hotel situated on Europe's largest Sand Dunes on the island with the best weather. The dunes make the greatest beach imaginable! The Canary Islands are part of Spain, but they lie before the coast of Africa. It can get hot in summer, but the constant wind cools everything. Just like in the Dominican Republic, the Gulf Stream heats the ocean around the islands. The hot African sun helps too.

The reason I recommend the RIU hotel, is that they are the European hotel chain with the best service. And the RIU hotels on the Gran Canary Islands have been voted to be the best for years in a row by customers of TUI travel agency. The food is very fresh and the range and choice of it cannot be beaten. It is so good that it is actually better to take just half-pension instead of all-inclusive, because otherwise you are bound to gain weight being there. Service there also really is 4+ stars - unlike in Turkey or other countries, where the service in 4+ stars is worth only 3 stars.

Basically, my parents have been there for 4 times in a row now. They switched the hotels around to keep things fresh, but they always went to Gran Canary Islands and always used a RIU hotel. They went on package holiday tours from Germany including the flight, but it should be no problem for you to book the same holiday through a British travel agency with a flight to Gran Canaria leaving from the UK plus flight tickets to get to the UK from Canada. You could even squeeze a few days of London in. That shouldn't be too much of a problem, as you speak English and thus can find your way around the city. Right?

And before I forget it:

If you want to organise everything yourself, in 2006 room rates for RIU Gran Canaria Maspalomas were 75 EUR per night during summer season and 55 EUR during off-season. Booking it through a European travel agency will make it cheaper though.

Wow Mel!

I dont often see a negative post from you!
I did hear some horror stories about cuba though so perhaps it is justified.
