Hey all...I am new to this site so nice to meet u guys...

This is my about a week I am leaving for Vienna and I would really apreciate if someone could fill me in on some good hostels and some "must see" sites in this wonderful city. I have to mention that I have about 3 days to explore. Thanx :)

Buy a guidebook; I really like the rough guide of Vienna, quite informative and it has some nice itineraries in it.

Must-sees include at the very least: Schönbrunn (imperial summer palace), the opera (Staatsoper or Volksoper, the latter is less touristy and equally good, provided you like operetta), Hofburg (imperial winter palace), Haus der Wiener Sekession, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Nationalbibliothek... the list could go on endlessly.

Obviously, you need to limit yourself to only a couple of these, since they're all splendid, but rather old-fashioned museums, in which there's not much more to do than admire the exhibitions. But whatever happens, don't skip the opera, even if you're not a fan!

have fun,

Hi there,

I was in Vienna a couple years back and I really liked it. Just go there and check what interests you most. There are so many things to see (just avoid the Prater/ferris wheel in the dark, I thought it was a very dodgy place, and locals confirmed me on that). Nightlife can be found along one metro line (built in underneath, there are many fancy bars and stuff, much better than the area called Bermuda triangle, just ask someone they will know what I mean).
