Well, I'd suggest you and your mate sit down and discuss a) what kind of places you'd both like to visit b) what you want to do there c) how long you want to go for.

Depending on your finances you can work out how long you can spend whereever you want to go.

go for it, getting bored in life is a great reason to go travel!

I recommend Europe. Its a great place to start any kind of world travel.

first of all plan your finances. This forma a major part of your planning process.

POnce you know how much you can spend you will be able to plan as to how far you casn stretch to go around.

Looking at your profile you seem to be a beginer, so plan in europe. several destinations you can move arounbd, france, swiss, germany Italy.

Get the first thing right, everthing else will follow.

hope it helps, and wish you nice trip

Well - do you just want to go on an interesting extended holiday, or do you want to work/volunteer/whatever?

If you want to work, Australia and New Zealand are good bets cause its easy to get a working holiday visa. This also sorts out the budget problem 'cause you'd be earning some money.

If you think you might be able to raise enough cash, and you want to see lots of different places, you'll be wanting to get a Round-The-World ticket.

You might want to think about how much culture shock you want/think you can take - e.g. the USA would make an interesting break, Thailand would have a few challenges, India would probably be a bit crazy (I've not been - on the to-do list).

And obviously budget is going to be a big factor - near and cheap could be Turkey or Morocco, perhaps - further you could go to China or South America.
