Yes i have and don't forget to haggle for the transportation, and it's defenitly fine going from Djibouti to Ethiopia by car(you stopping anywhere in particular in Ethiopia...Or Djibouti for that matter...Or will you just be stopping in the city...?)

All The Best and let me know if you have any questions about either country...Brush up your French in Djibouti as 1st language is French But you're fine with English in Ethiopia...

Happy Travels....Keep collecting infos as the last time i took a car from Yemen to Djibouti was in 2005...!!!

I was thinking about the same trip, Yemen looks ace. Just out of interest I was wondering if anyone knows the current situation in Somalialand (northern somalia), It's easy to get news on the south, but not the north which is apparently quite stable.

I'm kind of thinking of a mini road trip Yemen, Djibouti, Somalialand, Ethiopia. Early stages at the moment.

Just stumbled across this thread. My wife and i are currently residing in Dubai and are planning an overland trip when we return to the UK. The idea is that we will drive our Landrover back to England. Was considering Egypt to Morroco, ferry to Spain, drive across Spain and catch the ferry from Santander to Plymouth and then drive home. Algeria is causing a problem with that one. Then looked at driving across eastern europe via Istanbul but dont really fancy it.

I was looking at away of getting across to Ethiopia and Kenya when i came across this thread.

Is it really possible to drive from the UAE through Oman and into Yemen and then put the car on a ferry to Djibouti? That would be excellent. How do i do it and what will i encounter? All advice greatly received.

From Kenya we would drive across to the West Coast and then head North towards Morroco and then spain etc.

I too just stumbled on this thread searching for info about ferries in the Red Sea area, and wanted to respond as we are planning a round the world trip with our four children leaving UK next summer and driving a converted Leyland Tiger coach through Europe, then into Morocco from Spain, back into Europe (same problem you encountered with crossing the Moroccan/Algerian border), from Greece to Egypt, and I'm just investigating whether we can get to Kenya by ferry...I'm now thinking Yemen to Djibouti might be a good route. Encouraged by your response, djiboutici! Would you recommend we do travel through as a family? would love to find out more info... As always in these matters all advice gratefully received!!

Just respondong to the post about taking a car from Yemen to Djibouti, I dont know much about this. However I do know (from experience) that there is no way west from Kenya at the moment.

You would have to go all the way south and then back up the west coast, or alternatively there is an overland route that goes Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt and then across the middle east back to Europe or if Algeria will let you though back across North Africa to Morocco. I thought Algeria were better at the moment having recently re-opened the Hoggar route, although compulsory guides are required I think.

Saying that if you can find a route through South Sudan, DRC, or Central African Republic then I take my hat off to you, the world needs trail blazers!

I am seeking information on travelling across the red sea from Djibouti to Yemen and back. Does anyone know where I can find a ferry or a company that provides this kind of service?
