Hi! In January 2007 two girls... not so young, we're 30! are travelling to Mexico for 15 days. We've planned an itinerary but we need help with the distances from one place to the next and if you think we've done a good choice of places.
So we'll go from Mexico City to Acapulco, then to Puerto Escondido, stay there for some days visiting Monte Alban and Puerto Angel, then to Bahias de Huatulco, then to Oaxaca (the city), Puebla and back to Mexico City.
Do you think we have enough time to do all? Which are the buses companies you suggest, of course we're backpackers so the cheaper the better!
Thanks a lot!

I've spent about 2 months in Mexico, 2 years ago, but I must say I haven't gone to any of the places you are going to... But it is true that it is a huge country and there is so much to see. Puerto Escondido, Puebla and Oaxaca were on my itinerary but I dropped them at the end because of a lack of time, due to me having spent a lot of time in the Mountains (Guanajuato-Queretaro-amazing), on beaches in Yuccatan (which was great) and Chiappas (San Cristobald de las casas-fantastic). You are doing the stuff that i left for next time. I can answer your question on Buses though: All the companies are very good. i was actually impressed by the bus services in the whole of mexico. Some companies can be slightly better that others, but the differences are minute. I have found the Company "ADO" to be really good whith good prices. But you'll find that each region of Mexico has got a different predominant company. In terms of travel classes, there is a second class which is only about 10 percent cheaper than the 1st class ( not really worth it because it takes a lot longer-stops often-and it's less confortable-some people end up standing), The 1st class is relatively confortable and great value. The "Delujo" class (luxury) is more expensive ( huge leg room/ very clean toilet/coffe+tea at the rear of the bus. try once for a laugh, but i am not sure it's worth the expense...
Have a nice trip.

mmm your plans sound great u better check for the news there have been some riots recently, political problems now

so before engaging in buying tickets and the like u better check for the news

try our news papers to keep up with the situation there
i would take some information before deciding for sure

about times
from mexico city to acapulco is just 3 to 4 hrs
from guerrero to oaxaca it can take u from 12 to 18 hrs.
check with ADO busses
try also airline tickets
the roads are good but it is a mountainous area that why it takes longer looonger to get there even if they are so close from each other,

but never mind you can try other 30 whole states to visit, Mexico is so big and so attractive everywhere u go.

good luck
