It's getting close to the end of my college days and I've been wanting to go on a RTW for a long time now. I plan to leave around May 2007. I kind of have an idea of the general places i want to go and how much to bring. But this is where i'm getting overwhelmed. I want to go for about 7 months and hit places like(europe, SAmerica, NZ, OZ, SAfrica, India, Russia?). I WAS planning on taking around 10,000-15,000 Dollars along with me. I am an experienced traveler, am frugal, and like the "undiscovered" places more than the big cities.

Can i do all these countries in my time frame?

Is my budget too large? (I don't have the 10,000-15,000, but if necessary i can get it)

Any RTW recommendations along with must sees'?

Do i need to start getting things in order now? if not whats the latest date?( i want a semi planned RTW, but am willing to kinda pick up and go during)

Any feedback is much appreciated!

My advice is Less is More...the world isnt going anywhere, so first time out, (cos if you get the bug it will be a case of next time...) choose a handful of places you've always really wanted to go, why you wanna go there, and work on how much you intend to give yourself as spending money. And the only person who can decide how much you might spend is you....

So my trip for example, I went to Beijing to see the Forbidden city & Great Wall so I decided 4 days. I was flying thru HK twice so thought it rude not to stop over so I decided a week. SEAsia is a large area, I gave myself 5mths...personally I wish I'd given myself longer...but then there is always next time!

I went away for 8 mths, I had 9 flights and lots of overland travels, did a little shopping, but didnt drink or party too much and took £7k and came back home with change. But I made sure my accommodation was cheap - approx £2 a night or thereabouts, I ate from the street vendors, didnt drink much alcohol (apart from India where it was sooo cheap).

Hope this helps some. But my main advice is, dont overplan, dont get bogged down with it...just get out there and enjoy'll kick yourself that you didnt do it sooner!

Just go! No-one was more overwhelmed than me when I thought about what I was taking on...but with an extended trip like an RTW all you do it get on the first plane and just take it from there.

Things have a way of falling into place...and it's just pointless having lots of plans. That said, a bit of pratical research before you arrive somewhere is smart and invaluable.

But my best advice is go. Surprise yourself! :)
