My friend and I will be travelling to Morocco around Christmas time. We are flying in to Rabat and would like to see Marrakech and Fez, as well as spend the night in the desert. Does anyone have any tips for 2 women travelling in this country? What should be see? How should we get around? What sort of preperation should we do before leaving the US?

Hi there,

Getting around in Morocco isn't that difficult. In Rabat, most sights can be seen by foot. You can probably cover the entire city by foot if you have 2 days there.

It would be great if you can speak a bit of French.

You can take the train to Fez and Marrakech. It's very easy to figure out once you get to the train station.

In Fez, definitely check out the Medina and the tanneries. You might get lost in the medina. There would be people going to you asking you whether you need a guide. Try and find an official guide if you can and remember to bargain.

In Marrakech, you can also cover the major sights by foot. You can't miss Jemaa El-Fna and the old medina.

If you decide to spend the night in the desert, remember to bring warm clothes and woolies! It really cold at night!

Casablanca's 45 minutes away from Rabat by train, perhaps you might want to take a short trip there just to see the Mosque, aside from that, there's nothing spectacular in Casablanca.

Be careful of what you eat, food poisoning is common for foreigners who aren't used to the food there.

Please feel from to message me if you have any other questions.
