Hello everybody,

at the moment I am travelling Argentina and Chile but planning of going north around January. I would love to visit the Galapagos islands, but as far as I found out it is going to be highly expensive. I ve heard of something called : Galapagos for the "budget/poor" traveller!

Does anyone know bout it or has a suggesting how I best get there and around without spending to much money?

And something else!
Since about 2 weeks time I am In Ushuaia (argentina) and really want to visit CAPE HORNE, I ll stay one more week down here but it seems imposible to get anything that is cheaper than 1000Dollers for just 4days.
Anybody any suggestions how to get there cheaper?

Thank u

Hi Sarah,
The Galapagos are expensiv, the Flight from Quito or Guayaquil will cost $ 300-350, by arrivel at Galapagos you have to pay in cash the $100 entrance.
to visit the different Islands you have to book a trip on a boat.
there are many, from"cheap" to almost exclusiv,so this is the only part you can safe some money.

About the Galapagos for the poor,it is a Island not far from Puerto Lopez,I found nothing from interest there, but the visit was part of the whale watching trip.(June,July)
About Cape Horn,sorry,have no idee...

If you're up to some adventure, you could try to hitch a ride on a navy vessel. They depart from Guayaquil three times a week, and íf you're let on, it's by far the cheapest (and most time-consuming) way to get there. Haven't done it myself for reasons of time, but reportedly there is a small navy office in the port of Guayaquil where you can go to. It takes speaking some spanish, though, and maybe also knowing the right people (which is not hard; most Ecuadorians seem to have some remote tie or other to the army).

Good luck, don't forget to post your experiences,
