I visited Iceland in February one year and was still able to swim in the Blue Lagoon! I strongly suggest it.

i want to do exactly what your doing! i love iceland!
i went in august this year and went on a bus ride to the glacier skaftafell, and the hot springs in lanmannalauger and the iceberg lake (jokulsarlon). i rekommend all these places though it is quite pricey for the bus pass. and we camped because it was still reletivly warm, but i think youll have to stay in accomodation because youd have to be a bit crazy to camp.
the accomodation is around isk 1700 a night which is about 17 euros (i think). thats in basic sleeping bag accomodation.
but... i think it could be quite cool going up north to see the northern lights. up north its ALOT colder than in reykjavik which has apparantly quite mild temperatures in winter.
be prepared to spend a bit more than u expected, and then you wont be too disappointed. but its worth it i think!

I would try to book all of your accomodation if possible because that weekend might get a bit busy.
You might want to go on a northern lights tour, it has been really cold lately so there will probably be amazing northern lights. Have a look at this one.
On the weekend you might want to go to Kolaporti├░, an indoor flea market in central Reykjavik. There you can get traditional Icelandic food like shark, sheeps head and rams balls.

Visit is a very good site about things to do in Reykjavik, so you might want to take a look at it.
