After I go travelling in Oz I'm moving to either Marsfield or Epping or somewhere around there. Has anyone been there or lived there? What's are they like? Are those two areas very different?

Any comments welcome! :)

hey. ive never lived in epping but ive spent lots of time there and its actually a great spot. its one of the places id move to if i was looking for a new place...
its got the pub and resterants that you want plus got the shopping centre and chemist and bank and all that. its got the train sation and its not far from the city. i dont really know marsfield as well but from what i can tell id rather live in epping.
anyway.. hope that helps.
have fun

hey i just had a look at your profile and thought id add some extra stuff. wednesday nights at the pub is a big one for young people if ur into that kinda stuff and epping is a great mix of young people, young professionals and families plus you dont have to pay the rent of the inner city suburbs and its only a short train trip if you wanna go into the city.....
its a great spot.. but there are lots of them in sydney. anyway hope this helps.. have a good time

Epping is suburbia. It is nice suburbia, but not the place I'd expect an overseas traveller to move to.

You might get bored.

Thankyou for help! I know it's not where most travellers would go but I've got a place at macquarie so just wanted to know the perks and differences of the various surrounding suburbs. :)

The good thing about living in suburbia is that you'll be out with the locals. Half of Sydney lives in suburbia, it's great that someone will get to see and live in an area besides the city.

The Epping Hotel is a good pub. I used to go nuts there when I was 17-18 years of age, man that was 17-18 years ago!!!!

It's nowhere near Epping, but further out west, if you want to go to an awesome locals pub, go to the Mean Fiddler at Rouse hill. I've been to a lot of pubs and this pubs is definitely one of the nicest. It's very difficult to get out there and back via public transport, but if someone has a car, it's worth it.

Head down Old Windsor Rd, which becomes Windsor Rd, it's about 1km up the road from the Ettamogah Pub.

I'm a Macquarie Uni student, and I can tell you that Marsfield is home to many international students. I still live at home with my parents (don't laugh!) about 15-20 minutes from the Uni, probably half an hour from Sydney City.

Those two suburbs aren't too interesting, but if you are studying, the location is pretty good..

Good Luck!

Also, if you're anywhere near Epping train station (or Eastwood as well, I think) you can get the Countrylink Newcastle trains into the city - they're express trains, so they're heaps quicker than getting the regular northern line.
