Hi! I'm writing because I need help in planning my vacation. I was going to travel with a friend of mine to Oaxaca, but due to all the problems they're having there I'm trying to find a new destination. We're going to travel the last 15 days of January but we want to go to the beach. Do you think Puerto Vallarta is a good choice? How far is it from Mexico city? Is it a chep destination? Do you know of any hostels that you could recommend? Before I was considering Veracruz, but some people said the beaches were dirty and the weather cold. Any other place can you suggest? Don't include Riviera Maya in your advice. Thanks a lot!

This is winter time in Mexico in all the country...
so all the beaches will be cold

some colder than others...

but anyway, try...

Puerto Vallarta
Barra de Navidad
La Paz
Nuevo Vallarta

whats wrong with Riviera Maya or Cancun or Tulum??

good luck

Try Puerto Escondido (Oaxaca Coast) and get someone to teach you how to surf on one of the beaches with smaller waves (they have BIG waves for professionals there).

Try Mazunte a little further down the coast.

Try Zipolite (nude beach) next to Mazunte, but the water has killer undertows.

cancun will be warm and the beaches are the best in the carribean -- mexico's yucatan city cancun faces the carribean and it is a great central location to get to other popular yucatan destinations: cozamel (rent scooters), tulum, and chechen itza (sic).
