Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with the Joby Gorillapod? It looks like something that would be pretty cool for my little point-and-shoot digital camera. My only concern would be levelling the camera on the stand. Given the flexiblity of the product, I'm wondering if it's hard to ensure that you have the camera level to the horizon.

I saw a similar product in a local store for $6.00, which is a lot less than the Joby product. The Joby product looks a lot more heavy-duty, and it has the screw-on plate for the bottom of the camera, whereas the $6 product just screwed directly into the camera. I'm assuming this would make the Joby product more quickly attached to the tripod.

Does anyone have a similar product they would suggest? Is it worth getting the $24.95 Joby product versus the $6.00 product

I have a Gorillapod for my Canon SD550 and have been happy with it. It is pretty useful, small, and light. Fits easily in my camera bag (or daypack) and comes in handy when you want to time a timed exposure of yourself (or friends).

I'm not familiar with any of the knockoffs, but it is a solid product.

As for centering horizontally, you would just have to play around with the setup. There isn't a bubble level or anything... but I haven't had any major issues. Minor leveling issues can be taken care of Photoshop.

I don't exactly use it for any sweeping landscape shots where perfect composition is necessary... mainly just quick shots, etc. Anything more and I would use my DSLR anyway.
