I am bringing my lap top with me and wondered if there are hostels, apartments or public libraries that have wireless internet.

Also, does anyone know what kind of adapters I need to bring with me. I am coming from Canada and we have three prong outlets.

Thanks so much,

Hey Erin,

You should be able to find some wireless connections in Melbourne.. I am only a recent convert to the wonderful world of wireless (I'm using someone's right now!) and bought mine while out of Melbourne, so haven't had a chance to look around in Mel. I'm pretty sure that if you're willing to pay Starbucks, etc. would have something and if you're not willing to pay there would have to be a few cafes to choose from as well. Sorry for the lack of specifics - I could let you know in a few months.

As for power adaptors, australia uses two or three prongs, the top two are angled - the optional third prong is for earthing only. More important than the actual plugs (you'll easily find one at the Melbourne airport or any hardware store in town) is the voltage. Make sure that your equipment is either dual voltage or you have a step UP convertor from 110/120 V to 230/240V. Unfortunately those can be quite heavy though!! Of course, these can also be found in Melbourne quite easily if you get stuck and could save you lugging it around. :)

Cheers, Peter

If you're in Brisbane you can access the Wi-Fi network totally free from Queen St, Mall - the mail shopping strip in the city heart. More info here:

Otherwise you can access the net free or cheaply from these points:

Good luck!
P.S. Only 5 months till I see Canada!!! Can't wait :D
