Hi Everyone!
I'll be heading to Guilin in May of '07 and I just wanted to know if anyone had some suggestions of what to do? Basically, I'll be going to school there and I'm looking for ideas of what to do on my time off. Any local hangouts, bars, tourist attractions.. anything! If any of you could give me some ideas,or any of your Guilin travel stories, that'd be great!
Thanks a bunch!
Jessie

Guilin is one of the "traveller rip-off central"s of China. For weekend escapes, head to Yangshuo and the surrounding villages.

I second that, head to Yangshuo you can take the bus from the train station(you can get the good buses which actually cost less but you have to buy tickets cannt just jump on - unlike the others, price is not that much difference but comfort level is). There is alot to do there - nice little place - try the balloning it was excellent - you can organise it through the YHA and take a boat ride up the river.

Thanks for your replies... That definitely helps. I'll be taking a boat trip up the river for sure, and to alex1234, you mentioned ballooning? Can you please elaborate for me? That sounds like something i'd be interested in :D
Thanks again,
Jessie

IIRC hot-air ballooning costs about 800 RMB for 1 hour, not cheap!
