My girlfriend and I are going to the Philippines in January (after Vietnam and Cambodia). We want to go Scuba Diving for a week or so. She has gone before, I have not. So I need to do my Open Water certification. We are looking at using Action Divers in Puerto Galera. Has anyone used them? Are they worthwhile? Is there someone else you would recommend?

Go to White Beach which is approximately 6km from Puerto Galera. Its the first ok beach near Puerto Galera. Puerto Galera itself doesn't have any beach actually. I also made my open water diver at White Beach and I was looking for a good dive shop for weeks. The best I found was and which I can still highly recommend is Pacific Divers which are located at the right side of the beach near the White Beach Resort. The owner Didier speaks several languages and is a funny guy. I had lots of fun with the Pacific Divers, also at party time in the evenings.

Cheers, Kai

Boracay is one of the best places to hit when in the Philippines - nice beach, good nightlife, great food. And if you're there, you'll want to dive with Calypso, which is the biggest dive shop on the island but with fantastic staff, facilities, and equipment.

I've heard of Action Divers, but never dived with them myself. Puerto has some great diving as well, so is definitely a good place to look into.

Just recently was in Bohol and dove with Philippine Island Divers. Bohol has great things to see, is fairly quiet and has good prices. PID also had great staff who were very competent and personal.
