Hi sarasab,

I am not sure for the basis for ur "intimidation" - but as a citizen of the country, i can tell you that, there is no reason to be. Like any other place, we have our own pluses and minuses - and u need to watch out for them.

You find a very huge english speaking population, so getting help on the road will not be an issue. And if you are going to major tourist locations, travelling also will not be an issue.

I am not sure, what advice u are looking for - if u shoot specific questions, i shall be able to help you better.

hi sara,

Indians are best hosts,we go by the age old mantra, athithi devo bhava which means treat ur guest like God.

anyways no need to feel intimidated here,as aprilsgal said ull find a huge English speaking population in all major towns n cities, shoudl not be a problem to work your way around.

Good to know that u wud like to start with Goa,that is one place i luv the most, any kind of help u may require let me know.

vicky :)

NB: I dont do this for money, neither am i a representative of any travel agent or tour operator...for a living i work as an Operations Lead in one of the flagship companies in Bangalore.
This is just a footnote to dispel any misunderstandings that my fellow travellers may have.

India is relatively safe.. but, dont take anything for granted.
Be careful about autos and taxis especially in the night. Try and avoid local travel in the night. Dont be scantily clad coz that calls for embarassing attention. Dont touch men when you talk to them.Maintain a distance with Men.. women are in plenty to help you. Good luck.
Why are you missing out Southern India.. which is safer tourist haven? Can give you tips for Southern India. Feb is good decision too.

Good to know about your trip.

I feel northern side, UP / Delhi is not safe. It has become quite bad.
Make sure to be careful.

I feel south part of India is very much safe. Just make sure that you dont have full pocket of money. Keep a pepper spray with you handy.

You can visit places like Bangalore/Hydrabad where even local auto & taxi guys speak english. but make sure to Bargain a lot :)

Any help,, Do give a shout.. I will try my best to give u best impression of India. God bless.. Happy new year :)
