Does anyone know if there are any good places to learn how to surf in Florida? I really wanted to learn when I went to California three years ago but I didn't have enough time... It looks like so much fun!

Surfing Florida is best done on the East Coast (the Atlantic Ocean). Some typically good places are Crescent Beach/St. Augustine, Melbourne, Daytona, Sebastian Inlet...among others. I would almost guarantee that these places will have surf instruction, and definitley at least rental. Any place on the east coast will get waves from time to time, but depending on the location, some spots are definitely more prime than others. Always good to check the surf report. On the west coast, you pretty much have to pray for a storm to come in in order to get anything rideable. Plus, the waves break much closer to shore which make the rides much shorter. However, due to the layout of the coast, North Venice beach does seem to get pretty consistent waves (around the jetty). These waves might be good for a beginner, but not too often in Florida do we get really large waves unless there is a storm. Good luck!

I think beginner is good for me since I've never done any water sports! I'm gonna be in Orlando which doesn't isn't on any coast, but I really don't mind going on a day trip to any of those spots. Which place would you recommend for a first-time surfer? And do you guys know if surfing lessons are readily available? Thanks for all the help!

Cocoa beach is about an hour drive from Orlando. There are a dozen or more places offering surf instruction. I've never taken from any of them, so can't recommend anything in particular... but if you do a search online, you can easily get some information. Ron Jon surf shop originated out there, and they definitely offer lessons. One more thing... don't know if you have any interest, but in the same area is Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center.
