just wondering if anyone knows which area would be the better place to get acting work or a job in the entertainment industry. is one city better or the more hollywood/LA type of city (in terms of having a big film industry--NOT being a disgusting hellhole of superficial people!)?

thanks!

Wellll....
My answer to that is there is pros and cons of living in either Auckland or Wellington, which are the two biggest cities to consider working in the entertainment sector. It really depends what kind of work you are after.

Auckland is where most of the NZ tv shows are filmed, and where most of the major film studios are, and where Shortland Street is filmed, (which is NZ's longest running medical drama. It's pretty much fondly ingrained into our every being) So if that's what you are after then i'd recommend going to Auckland.

But Wellington (where I live :), on the other hand, is of course home to NZ's most famous son, Peter Jackson. It's actually pretty hard to comprehend how massive his projects and studios are until you see them, but it seems these days that he's taken over the entire Miramar suburbs. :) So if you wanted a part on any of his upcoming projects (i'm not sure how you would get into that) then Wellington is definitely the place to go.

Also, Wellington is by far the cultural capital of the country, there are heaps of theatres etc in the city.

Sooo, I guess you need to decide what type of work you want to get into and where would be better to go. Of course, i'm bias, and think you should come to Wellington, but Auckland has it's charms too... :)

Hope that was helpful!
