We are flying in to Bangkok from Japan in December and will have about 6 hours to kill before our flight to Koh Samui. Has anyone stayed 'overnight' at the new airport? We will be there from midnight to about 6am.

Is the new airport open? I had also heard rumours that it had been closed again/hadn't opened on time, but not from anyone who has been to Thailand recently ....

Any suggestions on how to spend time there or whether there is a "Day Room" at the actual airport etc would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Now every flight is landing at the new airport.

To kill time, I heard that this new airport is huge. There should be some places like shops, restaurants, cafes to hang around. so don't worry.

considering you have to wait almost an hours to get your luggages, check in an hour earlier - so you'll have 4 hours left. you should be fine.

I had a transit there few days after it was opened.
Boy! It was still in a mess, lots of unfinished construction,
the floor and tiles are stained. But the good thing is there
are a lot of nice shops around, as well as some really nice
eateries.

And its huge, from one end to the other, could take 20-30mins.

Thanks for your replies! As long as there's somewhere to eat and sit down I'm sure we'll be fine with a pack of cards :)

Cheers

Many reports say that the restaurant at the new airport are VERY expensive. And, according to a letter in the Bangkok Post this week, they don't give reciepts! Ask before you order!

There is a free shuttle bus that connects you to the transportation center (bus station) where they were supposed to add some cheap places to eat. Might be worth a look, the shuttle takes around 6 minutes to reach the bus station.

Is there McDonald's or something similarly cheap and chainstore in the new terminal? Or would we have to go to the transport centre? How about Burger King? I miss Burger King over here

I'd hang at the airport, going to the city might make me miss the flight.. Duty free there is pricey as is the internet.
Dec 5th full moon. have fun..
