Hi guys,
Can anyone suggest a good place to (attempt) to learn to surf near Melbourne? I'll probably need a few lessons and then just hire a board. I'm gonna be in Melbourne from the 7th Jan for a few weeks. Oh - and does anyone have any idea how much it might cost?

Learning to surf near Melbourne...
Your best bet is just to make you way down to Torquay. This the surf coast of southern australia. From here there will plenty of places to get lessons and to surf. Not sure of prices but with competition you should get a good price.
check out the local paper for second hand boards (if yor learning then somethig big would be good) often they are pretty cheap and about the equivalent of 5 or 6 lessons. check out this link for some tips:

I've friends who've been and recommend it highly.
