Working in Europe

I like in the UK, but would like to work away from home this winter- from January onward.

I don't speak any other language bar english, and very, very broken french, and I only really have experience in catering, but would like to do something different.

I've never been skiing, and am 19, so I think quite a few options are ruled out already....

So any ideas? What type of work could I do?

Is it best for me to apply from home, or just turn up and ask around?

Or am I being stupid seems I wont be able to speak the language (although I do intend on learning whilst there).

You'll need some language skills if you want to go to the continent. Why not try an on-line course - there are many available free of charge.

Where would you like to go?

There are often some regional job openings in tourist areas that you wouldn't find posted on the web. For instance, you might be able to work your keep and a fair profit at a hostile or hotel in any EU country.. with your catering background they might find you useful for preparing meals and cleaning up. Probably not reception, as the preferred receptionists have good multilinguist skills and they may not trust you to the position early on.

I'd be optimistic about finding work if you're planning on staying more than a month or two in one area! Along with the tourist buisnesses like hostiles, many owners and managers have a good command of english.
