Just wondering can any one shed some light on what month does the winter season start in Chilean/Argetnian Patagonia and then how pratical is it to visit this place at that time of the year?

You can definitely visit Patagonia in winter (starts april/may), but do bring suitable clothing; it tends to getter bitterly cold.

Winter starts in June, but Autum is a cold season as well. Patagonia has countless options for visitors, different activities depending on weather conditions. It's a little more expensive because winter sports require more sophisticated infrastructure, but if you are not interested in skiing, you can jump into 4x4 rides, fishing, trekking, canopy, bungee jumping, may be not rafting if it's extremelly cold, or simply absorbing nature's beauty. Gastronomy and night life are great, at least in Bariloche, San Martín de los Andes, Pucón and other cities with big ski resorts. Temuco and Villarrica in Chile and Villa La Angostura and Esquel in Argentina are awesome places to go, not so packed with skiers.
I would go any time of the year! Have fun!
