We will be traveling to the Pantanal at the end of July and would like some advice.

We have a TAM airpass and we're flying into Cuiaba on a Sunday afternoon and we're flying out the following Friday morning, so we essentially have 4 four full days.

We have looked into many ecotours but they all seem to be too expensive for our graduate student budgets (avg. $700 for a 4 day trip).

We've come to the conclusion that we may have to stay in Cuiaba and just do day trips, but we're worried we won't really get to see the heart of the Pantanal. It seems Chapada dos Guimaraes will be 1 good day trip...does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what we could do with these 4 days?!

Thank you in advance!

I had almost the same problem befor I strated to the brasilian Amazon.
The prices of the tour operator seemed to me very very expensive ( im also a student ) but finally I decided to pay it because the words of the operator sounded trustfully enough for me and they promised a nice tour. After the trip now i see that every pence was worth it.

With one-day trips you will definetly not see the same than on multiple- day trips because these are just the most frequented areas.

The decision is still up to you but i suggest you to look out for a INDIVIDUAL tour agency , then speak personally with the guide by email and if you think he is good then just DO IT !!

have a nice trip ,

p.s. if you are going to manaus and looking for a good guide, drop me a line .

In Brazil doesn't exist the culture 'for studant' like in other places of the world, this serves here only for tickets of fly!
Well, I entered in contact with a office to know which the cost, but with certainty it is not of 700 dollars, it can be 350 or 400, but 700 never!!!
Maybe in hotel 4 or 5 stars!
To advance I am sending the official site of the city of the Chapada dos GuimarĂ£es, but I come back to write when to know of the values.

Needing some information of Brazil, it can enter in contact that always that will be able I help you.
